Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 5, 2026
1. Who is responsible for your data?
Guessara is an independently operated browser game (“Guessara”, “we”, “us”). For privacy questions or requests, contact privacy@guessara.com.
2. What data do we process?
- Player information: the username you enter or accept when generated by the game.
- Game information: game and Live session identifiers, guesses, game progress, points, leaderboard totals and Live participation status.
- Technical information: IP address, request time, requested URL, connection identifiers and application error or security events recorded in server logs.
- Browser data: your language, sound-effects preference, remembered username, last-played category, subcategory, item count and display mode, plus temporary Friend Challenge and Live reconnect details stored in your browser’s local storage.
We do not ask for your real name, postal address, phone number, account password or payment information. Please do not use a username that reveals personal information you do not want displayed on a leaderboard.
3. Why do we use this data?
- To create and operate I Guess, Computer Guess and scheduled Live games.
- To calculate points, display leaderboards and prevent duplicate or manipulated scores.
- To reconnect Live players and recover gracefully from connection or server interruptions.
- To protect the service, apply request limits, diagnose errors and maintain reliability.
- To remember your chosen language, audio preference, username and last-played game selections on your own device.
- To help you return to an active Friend Challenge or Live session after a refresh or temporary disconnection.
4. Legal bases
We process gameplay information to provide the service you request (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). We process limited technical logs, security events and leaderboard information for our legitimate interests in operating, protecting and improving the game (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). You may object to processing based on legitimate interests as described below.
5. Public leaderboards
Your chosen username and points may be visible to other players on daily, weekly, monthly or Live leaderboards. Do not choose a username containing your real name or other identifying information unless you want it displayed publicly.
6. Storage and retention
- Abandoned normal game sessions are removed from server memory after approximately one hour of inactivity.
- Live game state is held in server memory for the relevant scheduled slot and is then cleaned up.
- Language, audio, username, last-played selections and reconnect details remain in your browser until you clear Guessara’s site data or your browser removes them.
- Leaderboard records and server logs currently remain until they are manually deleted or reset. A fixed automated deletion period has not yet been configured.
- SQLite leaderboard backups are created daily, checked for integrity, retained for 14 days and then automatically deleted.
7. Service providers and external connections
The game currently loads fonts from Google Fonts and the Socket.IO browser library from cdn.socket.io. When your browser requests these resources, the relevant provider can receive technical information such as your IP address and browser details. Their handling of that information is governed by their own privacy terms. Hosting and infrastructure providers may also process limited technical data solely to operate and secure the service.
We do not currently use advertising trackers or analytics tools, and we do not sell personal data.
8. Cookies and local storage
Guessara does not currently use advertising or analytics cookies. It uses browser local storage only to remember audio settings. Network libraries or infrastructure providers may use technically necessary storage or connection identifiers when delivering their services. Guessara’s local-storage data is used for the preferences and reconnect features described above.
9. Data sharing and international transfers
We share data only with service providers where necessary to host, deliver, protect or maintain the game, or when required by law. Because external resource providers may operate internationally, technical data may be processed outside your country. Where required, we rely on the safeguards made available by the relevant service provider and applicable law.
10. Your rights
Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of your personal data, and you may object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may also complain to your competent data-protection supervisory authority.
Because there are no registered accounts, we may need the username, approximate play time, Live type or other information to locate a record. In some cases we may be unable to link an anonymous username to a particular person with sufficient certainty.
11. Children
The service is not designed to collect a child’s real-world identity. Young players should avoid using their real name or other personal information as a username. A parent or guardian may contact us about deletion of a child’s information.
12. Security
We use measures including server-side validation, payload limits, request limiting, unpredictable session identifiers, duplicate-score protection, restricted username characters and verified database backups. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
13. Automated decision-making
The game automatically calculates answers and scores according to its game rules. These calculations do not produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the service or its providers change. The effective date at the top will be updated when material changes are made.
